GBN News Editorial: A Lasting Peace Prize?

The Nobel Peace Prize came as a surprise to practically everyone, not the least of whom was this year’s recipient, President Obama. After all, critics protested, what has he really done so far? But the prize was purportedly given to Mr. Obama as much for the potential of his initial peacemaking steps as for any tangible accomplishments.

The President has indeed managed to bring together, in the same room, adversaries who until now have been unwilling to even speak to each other. To get mortal enemies to share a handshake is no mean accomplishment, and the President certainly deserves credit for trying. But what good can really come from bringing together antagonists who have practically nothing in common besides huge egos and their own cynical agendas?

Therefore, while GBN News congratulates Mr. Obama, if the peace agreement between Newt Gingrich and the Reverend Al Sharpton does not reap any meaningful benefits, the Nobel Prize will be a hollow victory indeed for the President.

I think the Nobel Prize is an honor for the President, he was very gracious about accepting it.

For the record, I agree. The piece was a parody on the one major area in which I take issue with the President. Hopefully, he will continue to build on his promising attempts to effectively engage with the rest of the world. But if he persists, through his Education Secretary (who is rapidly becoming the President's Joel Klein), in engaging the likes of Sharpton and Gingrich in Arne Duncan's version of educational reform, it will only hasten the decline of our public schools, and can only damage our international standing.

I think the President is very deserving of this honor and you should take a timeout from your asinine crusade to congratulate him in another so-called breaking story.

If Obama makes a speech about writing a book will someone give him the Nobel Prize for Literature?Or says he'll cure cancer will he get the Nobel Prize for Medicine? I will discover how to turn lead into gold and perpetual motion - where's my Nobel for Chemistry and Physics?
