I have been in the NYC public school system going on 5 years and from the elementary school, through middle school and now high school I have been an involved parent and became a parent leader in the PTA, Presidents Council (PC) and CPAC. The symptom of what you point out can be attributed to the leadership but we need to hold our parents accountable for our demise. I will fight even harder when I think someone is trying to knock me down especially when it involves standing up for my children. I have seen my borough presidents council go defunct because they could not meet quorum. The process has faults that attributed to this but I am a PTA president and complied with the requirements to have our school represented at PC. I have to say with the high school parent organization model changing for high school parents from the district where we are torn out and thrown into a pool of a borough of almost 70 schools, this is one sure way to disenfranchise parent leaders and become ineffective. What makes matters worse is that OFEA is held accountable for the enforcement of PTA's and PC's via the verification forms, CPAC is now defunct with the executive board disolved and the failure to meet quorum and only 5 verified members at the October meeting where elections were supposed to take place. Again with 38 school districts (including the High School Borough Federations/PC's) 20 elections are still classified as "Election Pending" and CPAC Rep "Not Yet Determined". With official By-Laws in discord (the revision process was not completed and there were no minutes from the recording secretary for most of the meetings) the organization is disfunctional and defunct. I will work hard to rally parents, PTA's and PC's to get it together and NEVER GIVE UP as our children't education is at stake and I'll go down trying along with the many dedicated parents who still have the will to fight. "Hang in there baby!"PLEASE!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
